Piecing the puzzle together: What you need to work with complex mental health clients

Despite developments in mental healthcare over recent decades, there remains a group of people with very complex needs who require lengthy admissions and high levels of support in the community on discharge. This is the group that mental health rehabilitation services focus on. In the context of contemporary mental health services that minimize in-patient lengths of stay, the needs of this group must not be overlooked. Providing a local, ‘whole system, approach to address their individual needs, patient/health advocates help to address their unique challenges and to avoid the social exclusion of this group can experience.

This webinar will explore some of the difficult issues which may arise with complex mental health clients including:

  • Discuss Medical/mental health/substance abuse overlap
  • Examine the role of trauma, especially childhood trauma (regardless of the current age of the client)
  • Age-appropriate treatment
  • Knowing when to augment your knowledge and skills in the interest of your client

With close to 40 years of knowledge and experience in the healthcare industry from business, reimbursement, research, clinical and psychosocial perspectives, Lee brings her intuitive personality and problem-solving skills to help patients and families work through crises and identify options that meet their needs. In addition to her MBA, she earned her MS in Counseling and is a Certified Senior Advisor. Her clients’ range from pediatric to older adults and incorporate a range of medical, psychosocial, mental health and addiction issues that affect them, their families and loved ones.
