Today, there are many options for people who have complex medical conditions. In most situations, people are offered the treatment that the treating physician is familiar. Some people want to explore alternatives and turn to a patient/health advocate to assist them.

The National Association of Healthcare Advocates May CE webinar will present an interactive webinar that includes details to a complex case and discuss best practices that all advocates can benefit from learning about.

Join your colleagues for an interactive webinar where you will be able to understand the concepts of shared decision making, patient engagement and the value of getting a second option when patients present with complex clinical issues.

Program Objectives

  1. Learn how to critically think through complex issues.
  2. Discuss the best ways to research a complex problem.
  3. Describe how to put multiple choices in front of a patient and work through best choices.

The course will meet the competencies that patient/health advocates need to meet including:

  • Communication and Interpersonal Relationships (19%)
  • Medical Knowledge and the Healthcare System (10%)

The case study teaching method is a highly adaptable style of teaching that involves problem-based learning and promotes the development of analytical skills. By presenting content in the format of a narrative accompanied by questions and activities that promote group discussion and solving of complex problems, case studies facilitate development of the higher levels. Similarly, case studies facilitate interdisciplinary learning and can be used to highlight connections between specific academic topics and real-world societal issues and applications.
