Continuing Education: General

Serving Those Who Served - Veteran Health Advocacy

As a result of military service, many Veterans face unique health challenges and barriers to accessing adequate care. In addition, many independent health advocates, or advocates working outside the VA Healthcare System may have limited understanding of the VA, and limited understanding of Veterans in general. In representing a Veteran, an advocate may not understand these unique challenges and the resources available to address them.
CE Credit Eligible: Aug 01, 2024 - Jul 31, 2026

In this presentation, we will explore the critical role of Veteran health advocacy in bridging the gap between Veterans and the health care resources they need.

We will discuss the importance of education and awareness about Veteran-specific health issues as well as the need for improved communication between Veterans and providers.

We will discuss the role that independent and organizational advocates play as members of the Veteran’s healthcare team.

We will also examine the impact of federal policies and initiatives on Veteran health advocacy efforts and explore ways that advocates can work to effect change in policy and leverage their understanding of policy to improve Veteran health and access.

Ultimately, this presentation will demonstrate the essential role that Veteran health advocacy plays in ensuring that our nation’s Veterans receive the quality care and support they deserve.
